Construction Details

Project construction began in April 2026.

Interstate Lane Shifts and Speed Reductions

  • At least two interstate lanes will remain open in each direction during daytime hours.

  • Interstate lanes will be reduced to one lane in each direction during nighttime hours.

  • Traffic shifts and crossovers will take place, routing traffic around areas of active bridge demolition and reconstruction.

  • Interstate speed limits will be reduced to 55MPH in work zones.

  • Intermittent side street and brief interstate detours will take place as individual sections of bridge are removed. Advance notice will be given, and daytime traffic will still be able to utilize interstate lanes.

  • Interstate drivers can anticipate moderate travel delays through the work zone.

  • Construction schedule is weather permitting and subject to change.

Construction Update: June 2026

Since construction began in April 2026, crews have concentrated on building portions of the new bridge structures at the Mae Anne, 4th Street/Lawton, and Mogul locations while carrying out limited demolition activities. Once these new sections are completed, traffic will be shifted onto the new structures, allowing crews to fully remove the existing bridges and continue with the next phases of construction.

At the Garson bridge site, demolition of the existing structure is also expected to begin soon. Access to businesses will remain available with minor detours.

Local roads:

Intermittent single lane reductions will also take place during daytime hours on Mae Anne Avenue, West Fourth Street and Mogul Road underneath I-80. Traffic flaggers will alternate directions of travel, with minor travel delays.
